Mercy Watson Reading Comprehension Questions
by Kate DiCamillo, Chris Van Dusen
Book Summary
Mercy Watson is a 'porcine wonder' who lives with Mr. and Mrs. Watson, her adoring owners who treat her like their child. Mercy's favorite thing in the world is hot, buttered toast. One night, feeling lonely, Mercy decides to snuggle into bed with the Watsons. However, Mercy's considerable weight causes the bed to crash through the floor. While the Watsons believe Mercy has bravely gone to find help, Mercy is actually on a mission to satisfy her craving for buttered toast. Her quest leads her to the house of their neighbors, the Lincoln sisters, Baby and Eugenia. A misunderstanding ensues when Baby Lincoln thinks Mercy is a monster, leading Eugenia to call the police. Eventually, the fire department arrives, rescuing the Watsons from their precarious position, and everyone celebrates with a delicious feast of hot buttered toast.
