by Avi
Book Summary
Poppy, a timid deer mouse, lives with her large family in Dimwood Forest. When her boyfriend, Ragweed, is eaten by the tyrannical great horned owl, Mr. Ocax, Poppy feels responsible and vows to find a safer home for her family. Mr. Ocax forbids the mice from moving to a new area called New House, claiming it's too dangerous. Defying him, Poppy embarks on a perilous journey to New House to investigate a rumored salt lick and prove it's a safe place. Along the way, she befriends a grumpy porcupine named Ereth.
