The Austere Academy Reading Comprehension Questions
by Lemony Snicket
Book Summary
The fifth book in A Series of Unfortunate Events, 'The Austere Academy' follows the Baudelaire orphans—Violet, Klaus, and Sunny—as they are sent to the dreadful Prufrock Preparatory School. There, they endure strict, nonsensical rules, a cruel Vice Principal Nero, and the bullying of a student named Carmelita Spats. Their misfortunes worsen when Count Olaf, disguised as the gym teacher Coach Genghis, devises a scheme to exhaust them with nightly 'Special Orphan Running Exercises' (S.O.R.E.) to make them fail their exams and fall into his guardianship. The Baudelaires find allies in the intelligent Quagmire triplets, Duncan and Isadora, who are also orphans. Together, they attempt to expose Olaf and escape his clutches, but their efforts lead to the Quagmire triplets being kidnapped by Olaf, leaving the Baudelaires with a new mystery to unravel.
