The Giver Reading Comprehension Questions
by Lois Lowry
Part of the The Giver Quartet series · Book 1 of 4
Book Summary
Jonas lives in a community where everything is orderly and the same, without colors, strong emotions, or personal choices. At age twelve, he receives a unique assignment: the Receiver of Memory. The Giver, the current Receiver, transmits memories of the past to Jonas, showing him a world with colors, music, joy, love, and also pain and sadness. Jonas learns that his community gave up these things for 'Sameness.' When he discovers that a baby named Gabriel is in danger of being 'released' (sent away), Jonas decides he must leave the community with Gabriel to share the memories and bring true feelings and choices back to his world. They embark on a challenging journey to a place called Elsewhere, hoping for a new beginning.
