by Jon Scieszka
Book Summary
The Knights of the Kitchen Table #1 is the first book in The Time Warp Trio series, following three friends, Joe, Sam, and Fred. For Joe's birthday, he receives a mysterious book from his magician uncle. When Fred wishes to see real knights, the book transports them back in time to medieval England, during the time of King Arthur. The boys quickly find themselves in danger, first facing a Black Knight, then being recruited by King Arthur to help defeat a fearsome giant named Bleob and a fire-breathing dragon. Using their modern wits and teamwork, especially Sam's cleverness, they manage to trick the giant and the dragon into fighting each other, saving the kingdom. After being hailed as heroes and dubbed 'Knights of the Round Table,' Merlin helps them use the magical book to return home, where they resolve to learn more about its powers.
