The Wanderer

The Wanderer tells the story of thirteen-year-old Sophie, who embarks on a transatlantic sailing trip from the United States to England with her three uncles and two cousins to visit their grandfather, Bompie. The journey is chronicled through alternating journal entries by Sophie and her cousin Cody. As they face the challenges and dangers of the open sea, Sophie grapples with a deep-seated fear of the ocean and suppressed memories of her biological parents' death and her adoption. Cody, feeling like an outsider, seeks to prove his worth. Through shared experiences, storms, and personal revelations, both Sophie and Cody undergo significant self-discovery, strengthening their family bonds and confronting their pasts, ultimately leading Sophie to accept her identity and integrate her traumatic memories.
